DEER POACHERS FINED.

NELSON, Sept. 11. J ; Five residents of the Tadmor and Motupiko districts were vprosecuted for taking deer out of season. All pleaded guilty. Counsel for the Acclimatisation {Society asked for a substantial penalty owing to the extreme difficulty of obtaining>evidence. One offender was fined 10s and each of the others ss, with costs. 2Bs 6d. The Magistrate said he had dealt exceptionally leniently w,ith| the offenders because, they had pleaded guilty. This should be a warning to others that in the event of further convictions heavier penalties would be imposed.
