NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB

The annual meeting of the New Plymouth Cricket Club was held in tho Town Jlall last evening. Mr E. Whittle presided. There was a good attondance.

The annual report (published in yesterday's Herald) was adopted. Nine new members were elected.

The following officers were elected for the ensuing jear: — President, Hon. O. Samuel, M.L.C. ; vice-presidents, Dr. Walker, and Messrs A. 10. "Watkins and D. Teed; club captain, Mr E. Whittle; lion secretary and treasurer, Mr C. O. Berg; committee, Messrs Williams, H. Price, V. Elliott, Goss, J. F. Strung, A. H. Steeds, Jack, and A. S. Hasell"; selection committee, Messrs E. Whittle, Steeds, Hasoll and Berg; delegate to North Taranaki Cricket Association, Mr Elliott ; delegate to Recreation Sports Ground Committee, Mr H. Stoeker; lion, auditor, Mr W. P. Crawford.

Mr E. 0. Lightbund. who has recently left tho district, >-;\s elected a life member of tho Club.

Mr A. S. Hasell was presented with Dr. Walker's trophy of a handsome engraved bat for the batsman making the highest average during last season. As in previous years, it was decided that the High School and Central School should be allowed to nominate two boys as free members of the Club during the coming scasoii. The chairman mentioned that the Club had received the written permission of the chairman of the Western Park Committee to use the Park tor the .Qpming season. The ground had since been" ploughed up. They had, however, been granted the use of the Tukapa ground by the chairman ot the Park Committee, but he had since heard that this action was being opposed by members of tho committee.

Messrs. E. Whittle and M. G. Williams were deputed to wait on the Western. Park Committee at its next meetA letter from the United Service Cricket Club regarding grounds and practice wickets was referred to the committee for favourable consideration.

The chairman, mentioned that the Recreation Sports Ground Committee had granted the use of the ground for practise on the condition that no players should be allowed on the ground in other than cricketing boots or shoes.

The chairman said there was every prospect of a Saturday competition being inaugurated this seasou. There was an Association rule debarring Thursday players from participating in a Saturday competition, but this would probably bo rescinded at the annual meeting of the Association. Mr. Hasell stated lus intention of donating a bat to the batsman obtaining the highest average in a Saturday competition. It was decided that two senior teams and one junior team should be put in the field on Thursdays, and one team on Saturdays. The subscription was left unaltered. It was decided that play should begin not later than the j first week in October.

Messrs Elliott and Lash were accorded & vote of for revising the Club's rules and by-laws. A hearty vote of thanks to the chairman was carried with acclamation. Several speakers highly eulogised the great services rendered 'to cricket in general and the Club in particular by Mr Whittle.
