A SERIOUS CHARGE.

"SHOOTING WITH INTENT TO KILL." Per Press Association. MASTERTON, Sept. 9. Tobias Miller stood in the dock at the Masterton Police Court to-day charged with shooting at Ernest Hight with intent to kill. The Bench was occupied by Messrs Eli Smith and John Cross, J's.P. Accused, who looked very pale and careworn, was not represented by counsel. He did not exhibit any very great interest in the proceedings, which lasted a few minutes only. The body of the Court was densely crowded. Sergt. Miller, after the charge had been read by the Clerk of the Court, stated that the victim of the affray was confined to his bed, and asked that the prisoner should be remanded for a week. The application was granted. Tho question of granting bail was not raised. There is no apparent change in the condition of Hight., To-day he was in good spirits and appeared to be little the worse for the wound.
