A SUDDEN FALL OF EARTH. ]}y Electric Telegraph.— Copyright. BRISBANE, Sept. G. A shocking disaster occurred at the Mount Morgan mine on Saturday evening. Se\en men, named Leishman, Shepherd, (Juthrio, .Jury, Hillyard, Gerrko, and Ryan, were killed. The mon wore employed in the BoOfeet level. Suddenly, and without warning, an immense mass of earth and rook, estimated at 3000 tons, broke away, filling tho level and burying tho men. Though it was recognised that the position was practically hopeless, tho < work of the mine- was stopped and rescue operations were started and continued throughout the night and today. A crowd surrounded the mine, ( where pitiful scones were enacted. Five J of those killed were married. ! Just prior to the collapse a man met with an accident. He and a companion left the level on w*hich tho disaster occurred. Guthrio (one of the victims) descended and took the injured man's l^lace. The man who escorted his injured companion, on returning to work with two others, had a narrow escape. ■ They were standing just outside the 1 disturbed area when it collapsed.
