A meeting of Asiatics was held hero for the purpose of protesting against the new Asiatic registration law. Three thousand Asiatics were present. Four hundred burned the certificates given them by the Transvaal Government to entitle them to remain in the country. Gandhi, the Indian barrister who took a prominent part in tho recent successful agitation against the fingerprint registration law, addressed the meeting. He declared that he would prefer spending his life in gaol to seeing British Indians treated as serfs.
