EMPLOYERS' ASSOCIATION.
THE HOLU)AY QUESTION.
A meeting of the executive committee of the New Plymouth Employers' Association was held this morning at the Council Chambers. There 1 were present — Messrs. Goodacre, F. Bellringer, Evans, O. Sole, W. Ambury, C. Carter, Blyth, and tho secretary (Mr. J. Whitaker). A communication was read from the Chamber of Commerce recommending that Empire Day should be observed as a public holiday in lieu of Juno 3, the Prince of Wales' Birthday. It was resolved to recommend the Retailers' Association to adopt tho suggestion. The secretary reported that tho requisition for a poll' of the burgesses to be taken as to the Factory Act halfholiday had not received sufficient signatures. It was therefore decided that the petition should be held in abeyance.
Ifc was decided to meet the local members oi Parliament prior to the commencement of the sessionsrto emphatically protest against the 'hasty manner in which business was rushed through the House towards the close of last session, and also against tho burgesses being asked to decide *tho qucs-> tioji of the half-holiday.
