Regret w.'w expressed in sporting circles when tho news was circulated that Elevation was lame, and that those who anticipated a great equine battle between the New Zealander and Mountain King were likely to be disappointed. Elevation had 1 done a dingdong gallop with Castaway. The latter had a couple of lengths' advantage at the start, but Elevation was a neck in front at the finish, doing the distance in lmin 45sec. The New Zealander was found to be lame at the conclusion of the gallop.
