BETTING UP TO DATE.
BOOKMAKERS SWINDLED
By Electric Telegraph. — Copyright. (Received April 15, 9.4 a.m.) LONDON, April 14. In the absence of direct telephone communication, and in view of the slowness of the telegraph service, bets have been accepted at Vienna on English races two and a-half hours after the races have- been run. A group of sharpers, by utilising the telephones between London and Paris, between Paris and Berlin, and between Berlin and Vienna, swindled leading bookmakers of many thousands of pounds.
