Colonel Hume, Inspector of Prisons, is in town dn business connected with the iocal gaol. Mr Justice Cooper is expected to-morrow to hold an inquiry into the case of an indeterminate sentence prisoner.
The Rev. Mr Holder, who takes charge of the South Road Wesleyan Church in succession to the Rev. H. A. G. Keck, transferred to Rotorua, will arrive in New Plymouth this week. A series of socials for the purpose of welcoming Mr Helder is being arranged at the places of worship in the circuit.
Last week's Gazette announces the appointment of Mr George Ball to be a cadet in> the office of the District Land Registrar, New Plymouth.
Professor J. Macmillan Brown, of Christchurch, will leave next month on a trip to China and Japan.
Among the successful candidates at the last November University examinations were Miss Mona Brown, of Auckland, Mho passeS the final of the B.Sc. degree, Miss Elsie Bollinger, of Victoria College, who obtained her M.A. degree, Truby King, of Victoria College, and Harry Skinner, of the hanie college, who passed the first section of the first division for the L.L.B. eh r/,ree.r /,ree.
The Rev. H. A. G. Keck left yesterday for hi* new circuit, Rotorua. He is journeying by way of the Main Trunk line.
