It appears there Is exceptionally heavy demand "from the North for wheat, oats, potatoes, chaff, and hay ; and while Northern $uyers, are clamouring for supplies, local merchants cannot "get -boats to takfe jthem>. *$&•, Merchants complain^ that '$01; . the last; three weeks enormous quantities of produce have teeen left on the wharf. The shipping companies concerted, the Union Company and the Huddart Parker, Company, assert that 1 e'verytibM^ possible has been, done to cope wjsa the. exceptionally heavy trade. Pressure has been.ielt atrother ports, and the demand for space on boats has been ■very-ifceavy. They anticipate that the coming week will see everything cleared away. Provision has been' made fqjr the despatch of 1000 tons of; grain .by the - Wimmera on Tuesday;; and^/phe company expects to deaf- everytfiiiijß offering by this boat.
