SHIPBUILDERS' STRIKE.
By Electric Telegraph. — Copyright. LONDON, April 9. Mr J. N. Barnes, M.P., has resigned the general secretaryship of the Amalgamated Society of Engineers. The resignation is due> he declares, to the North-East District of the Engineers' 'Association setting itself the whole body and wasting the society's strength by>. striking. If the trade union officials were to be flouted, without reason, the effectiveness of trade unionism would be ■ weakened and collective bargaining undermined.
