TEACHERS' PICNIC.

The following report of 'the Taranaki Teachers' picnic is furnished by "One who would not have missed it." Gatherings put off on account of unfavourable weather are not usually the success they might be, and the Taranaki Teachers' annual picnic, though all that could be desired from Other points of view, numerically falls under this category. The picnic, postponed from the previous Saturday on account of rain, was held at Ngaire Gardens last Saturday. t Almost ideal picnicking wea.tner obtained during the day. Several teachers were unable to attend, while the majority of the others — many -of them enthusiastic advocates of picnics as a moans of getting teachers in touch with one another and relieving, the monotony of and tendency to stagnation in their isolated and arduous existence — were conspicuous by their absence. Especially was this true of those located in and about JSpwr Plymouth, only four representatives from north of Inglewood putting in an appearance. » Stratford was in like case with New Plymouth, but without, the oxduse of distance or of threatening weather. However, enthusiasts to the number of some two dozen, including several representatives from Southern Taranaki, travelled by road or rail to the Gardens. These, with games and other amusements, the renewal of old acquaintances or the formation of , new ones, and the pleasant and instructive interchange of ideas, <BDent a most enjoyable day. Tho tennis court and the croquet lawn received most attention from member* of theparty, while some diverted themselves withj the beauties of the Gardens. Riding on the ''ocean- wave and boating on tho lake offered entertainment to others. The water-chute was much in evidenefc. ''Hot water and- milk being provided in abundance, luncheon and afternoon tea, set out on benches un""der a chestnut tree, had ample justice done to them. When the time for departure arrived, it was with regret that one and all said good-bye.
