SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.

A meeting of the Taranaki School Commissioners was held yesterday. Present: Messrs J. Wade (in tho chair), W. T. Jennings; M.P., C. E. Major, M.P., Simpson, and H. Faull. Pursuant to notice, the Chairman moved and Mr Major seconded, that henceforth tho Commissioners should bear one-third of' the cost of preparing all leases. After some discussion it was resolved, on the motion of Messrs Jennings and Simpson, that the consideration of this matter and the whole question of costs should b© postponed until next meeting, in order that the Board might obtain further information as to tho practice of other Boards. The secretary reported that Mrs Fraser had accepted the offer of a new leaso for ten years. Mr J. P. Baker, Mokoia, lessee of section 211, Patea district, wrote that slips had* occurred o.n his river frontage, which in his opinion called for serious . attention. On the motion of Mr Simpson, seconded by Mr Faull, the matter was referred to tho ranger for a report. Tho treasurer reported a bajanco of £792 8s 4d. The following lessees gave- notice of their desire to enter into arbitration for renewal leases: — John Dravitzki, C. C. Prideaux, and E. F. Jenkins. Mr Geo. A. Marchant was appointed the Board's arbitrator for the purpose of fixing what were the.substantial improvements of a permanent character! on (1) section 56, block vi., ffuiroa 1 S.D., leased to J. Dravitzki; (2) section 80, block x., Kanpokomii S.D., leased to C. C. Prideaux; (3) section 20, block i., Huiroa S.D.. leased to E. F. Jenkins; and also to determine the yearly rental to be paid in each case during tho next term of 21 years. The Board decided to include both the secretary and the ranger in the employers' liability policy to be taken out this year.
