(Per PreM Association.)
AUCKLAND, July 24.
The epidemic of indisposition reported from Sydney in connection with the Grand Opera Company has appeared in Auckland. When the company arrived they cut out the first matinee, which was to have taken place this afternoon, and a number of country people who had turned up were disappointed, no announcement of the fact having been advertised. "Carmen" was performed all right last night, but "Tannhauser* was to have come to-night. When tho audience % arrived they found huge placards posted about the theatre that, ow - ing to the indisposition of Herr Ludermann, the piecje could not be played, and it has now been postponed till next week. ''Faust" was put on instead, but instead of starting at the advertised time of 7.40 it did noi begin till 8, and at 11 o'clock the second last act was only opening. A number of people left the theatre -before the close. Trams aro blocking Queen Street, which have been waiting since 11, the ordinary time for the leaving -of the last trams, ami will cost the Tramway Company a good sum for overtimp.,., It was announced that "Lohengrin", would be played -to* l morrow, but that has gone by the board, and '-Cabmen*' is to have a second performance. Much indignation has been, expressed.
