WELLINGTON, July &2.
The Parliamentary party on the way to Taumarunui inspected the Makatote viaduct. A deputation' was received at Ohakune, asking that sections should be thrown open 1 te-enable men to settle in the district, also for a better road. At Taumarunui the members were banquetted v . Speeches were made by local men urging fencing of the railway to avoid "the' killing of so many cattle. They also complained of the indemnity asked for rafting timber on the Wanganni river, an'fl of the high freights en the river. Another complaint was of the lack of facilities for medical attention. Encouraging answers were given, members in some cases being able to assure their hearers that steps were already being taken in the direction desired — especially in regard to fencing the railway, providing of a hospital, and the survey for the Ohura railway.
HAMILTON, July 21J At Taumarunui last night, the Parliamentary party were entertained at a very largely-attended banquet by the residents of the township and settlers of Ohura County. In the course of the speeches, the disabilities of the district under the Native land laws were em-
phasised,. and members were urged to support measures to relieve the trouble. ~ The importance of roading the backblooki and of the rapid construction of
the Ongarue-Stratford railway were also dealt with. The party left on their return to Wellington to-day.
