ART INSTRUCTION.

A TEACHER FOR TARANAKI.

Miss Rhodes, of the Elam School of Art, Auckland, has been appointed art instructress to the Taranaki Education Board and the New Plymouth High School. She comes with high credentials, having obtained a high position in art study- She is an Art Certificated Teacher — one of the highest titles granted at South Kensington. She has gained other awards from South Kensington, including certificates for still life in oils, drawing from the antique, and blackboard drawing. By the Auckland Society of Art, she has been awarded certificates in the following: — Study from antique in monochrome, design for panel, natural foliage, still life in oils; and from the Elam School of Art, Auckland, she has certificates for the best work of the year in (a) set of features, shaded, (b) monochrome, and (c) painting of still life in oils. Miss Rhodes has been a working member of the Auckland Society of Arts for several years, and has been teaching private classes for about twelve years. An art expert, writing to "Mr. W. A. Ballantine, chief inspector, says Miss Rhodes is one of the most clever and successful students in School of Art. She has had charge of large classes. He adds: "You will be jolly lucky to get hold of her; her still life work is without doubt the best in the colony."

A meeting of Egmont Road residents is convened for Monday, 29th inst., at 7.30 p.m., for the" purpose of selecting a site for the proposed hall.
