PETROLEUM.

Bore No. 3 of the Taranaki Petroleum Company is still free from water. There was a little oil during the week, but it was not considered worth stopping for and boring was continued. It is anticipated the bore will soon be down to the same level as No. 1. Work is progressing steadily at No. 2, endeavours being made to shut off the water. Oil is still flowing at No. 1.

Work is progressing steadily at the property of the Inglewood Oil Boring and Prospecting Co. Mr Bunger is still encountering hard substance at the bore of the New Plymouth Company* Omata. Drilling at the Taranaki Oil and Freehold Co.'s No. 1 bore at Vogeltown has progressed steadily throughout the past week> the same very hard formation being met, so that only 21 feet has been pierced. This occurrence of two deep bands of conglomerate (14ift. and over 20ft.) so near the surface does not accord with the experience of the companies which have sunk wells at Moturoa and in other parts of the district.
