IRELAND.

REINSTATING EVICTED TENANTS

WHAT IT WILL COST-

United Press Association. — By Electric Telegraph. — Copyright. LONDON, June 28. In the 1 Houso of Commons, the Chief Secretary for Ireland, the Right Hon. A. Birrell, ha 3 introduced a Bill to enable the Estates Commissioners to compulsorily reinstate 2000 evicted tenants, compensating sitting tenants for disturbing them, or transferring them to other land. It is estimated that 80,000 acres will be required. The 1 cost of reinstating and equipping the untenanted land is to be borne by a reserve fund of £175,000, ancVthereafter by the Land Commission's vote. Irish Unionists calculate that the cost of relieving 2000 evicted tenants will amount to nearly two millions, and they fear that this will fall upon the »Land Purchase Fund.

The Morning Post states that Mr Asquith, with a view to relieving the deadlock, arranged that the National Debt Commisioners advance the Irish Land Purchase Fund six millions, to enable the Estates Commissioners to complete purchases already agreed on. Hence the issue of Irish Land- Stock at the present low rate of 84 would be avoided in 1907.
