i, „• Mr Alf . Bayly's friends will hear with pleasure that ho has considerably improved in health. . , Mr J. B. Harkness, secretary of the National Dairy Association, was in New Plymouth this afternoon. , Mr Victor H. Griffiths, who has joined JVIr J. Sanderson, architect, returned to New Plymouth on Friday evening and commences on his new duties on Monday. The Wanganui Chronicle records the death of t^e late Daniel Hughes, formerly a' sergeant of the 65th Regiment, who was with his regiment in the very jearly history of Wanganui in the forties, and saw and took part in the •thrilling experiences to which the early settlers were subjected. The deceased tobkpart'in the many engagements and gqrtieg in and around Wangamri; 1 notably the battle of St. John's Wood (now -JBt. John's Hill), and the defence of the town against the natives. A€ about this time he was in charge of the military party on thS "gun boat" often referred to in the early, history^ of *&& iown. Later, the deceased, with his "The Royal Tigers,", took part in the Waikato campaign, and was .wounded at Rangariri. A pretty wedding was solemnised on Monday, June 17th, at the residence of th© pride's parents, when Miss Florence Alice Gunson, eldest daughter of Mr Geo. Gunson, was united, in matrimony ' to Mr Richard Samuel Jenkinr eldest ■ son of ' Mr Richard J,enkin of the Thames. Thp bride, who was given away by her father, was attired in cream silk, with the orthodox veil and ' orange blossoms, and carried '& shower , bouquet. She was attended, by two bridesmaids— Miss Oliv£ Gunson (sister of the bride, dressed in creani/jsilk) and Miss Loveridge (dressed in'cream spot- ," 'ted silk voile). Each carried shower, bouquets. The bridesmaids wore pretty gold brooches set with, rubles and pearls, the, gjfts of the brijdegropm. Mr Albert Home acted as best man," and . Mr Richard Naslj as groonisman. Rev. A. Armstrong officiated. After the ceremony the guests were entertained 1 * to breakfast, when the Usual toasts were honoured. Th© young couple were the , recipients of -^numerous costly presents. 1 In. the evening Mr and Mrs Gunson entertained a large number of friends, ( when music, songs, and dancing was ■ indulged instill early hours. -
