A SERIOUS CHARGE.

At Kaitangata •10-day, * William Thompson, a mirier, was cotaolmitied 1 for trial on a charge of discharging a firearm with intent to 'do 'grievous -bo-* dily harm to one Williajm Fibbes. The case for the prosecution was that ac-^. cused, who was somewhat under the influence of drink, cadled at v Fibbes' house, and used abusive language. Accused, who lived in a tent some 150 yards away, returned" shortly after,., .and again used 1 - abusive language, inviiting Fibbes "to come out and he would do for hiori. Wihett he saw Fibbes, it is alleged he discharged a pea rifle, and Fibbes heard a bullet pass his face. Fibbes again "dealt with" Thompson, who was taken home. 'MriHanlon, who,, appeared for the accused, could not examine the principal witness, a ' daughter-in' law of Fibbes, as she was indisposed, and as he said there was no doulbt a prima facie case had been made out,' he would not keep the case open any longer. - . ■
