ASSOCIATION.
New Plymouth and Waitara representatives met on ) the lEecreation Ground on Thursday afternoon, ' and after a very; creditable exhibition of "soccer" the local combination i came out victorious by four ; goals to one. The match was keenly contested but yet played in the most friendly spirit. In the first half New Plymouth attacked thei most frequently and .kept | the .visitors busy -defending their. cita-| del. With some players there was an inclination to "hug" the ball instead of passing -quickly and effectively, but matters uftliis respect improved, as the game advanced. On two occasions in the first half penalties were awarded ?Tew Plymouth in front of the goal for breaches by the Waitara fullbadk, aivi on both of these A'clan (-a new addition to the rank's of the local team) shot tricky goals. W-aHara registered a chance goal in this spell. The second half showed more combination on both sides, and New Plymouth put on two more goals, one a chance one and the other a fine shot by Aclan. Towards the. end Waitara- rallied with vigour arid ..by concerted passing had the locals hard pressed but the goalkeeper proved a stumbling block. Mr Biddies referred.
In the evening a smoke concert was held at the Taranaki Hotel, and a pleasant social evening* rcsulteid. Mr Julian, the 'donfcr of a challenge cup, presented it to Waitara, the winning team for the season, and he congratulated ! the club on < its success. Mr Schofiel'd (captain) acknowledged the presentation in .suitable <terms. Musical items 'and toasts occupied the ■eveninjr. and the' gathering dispersed with the singing of "-Auld Lang Syne."
