Thr an^roacWner vinii of Mr Vi. M. Smith is awakeninc interest, as ratepayers wiah to obtain every informa-
tion possible about harbotur matters, and it is felt that Mr Maxwell has ably put his ideas before the people. Mr Smith . will probably take the mechanical benefit for his topic while when Mr King pays his promised visit the commercial and financial part of the question will be ably put before the people. It is hoped that a large niutaber of visitors from other districts will be present on Monday. The library was opened on Friday, May £st with a fair supply of books and a very encouraging number of members." There ' was a slight difference of opinion as to whether it was naore desirable to obtain a small number of newly published works or a large number of cheaper b,ooks which were not quite so recently from the publishers h^ands. However members are invited to name books they would like obtained from which the committee will make a selection. A further supply will be obtained shortly. During the evenings the library is open, games suoh aa chess, draughts, etlc., will be played. The younger memibers a"p(pear to take considerable interest In this movement. The cricket ball which wa's held omx TkaxdAay, 30th Ajpril, was a great success. 1 There was very good stupport accondeid from both Okato and Pungareihu. Mr H. J. Valintine" acted as M.C. ani3 kept things moving. Mr Knowles provided the music. The result was a substantial addition to tihe club's funds. The projected match. Married y. Single to have been played on Saturday, 2nd May did not come off. When time arrived there was a dearth of married men, so tihe afternoon was gpent in a game between sides chosen by Mr E. Larking and Mr F. Jenkins. Football is now the chief topic of conversation.
