The Kohnratahi Public Hall was formally opened with a concert and dance on March. 17. Mr J. E. Ander? son presided at the concert: 1 The items were well rendered and were highly appreciated by a crowded audience. The k following is the programme i— Part I. : Overture, KohurataM Orchestra; Philadelphia, Mr E. Hill;- Rowdy Dowdy. Boys, Mr Lander; Good-bye, Mavouxneen, Miss Scott; Five Minutes Fun, Mr P. J. White; Drinking, Mr Grant; The Romany Lass Mr J. Scott; The Ringtailed Coon, Mr E. Hill and Chorus. Part II.: Cornet; Mr G. Stockwell; Alton Water, Miss Scott; The Diver,, Mr Grant; Mary of Argyle, Mr J. Scott; song, Mr Lander; Kissing, Mr E. Hill; Six Minutes Fun, Mr P. White; Good-night, Mr J. Scott arid Cliorusj Miss Nellie McDonald danced an Irish Jig in fine style. Between the , first and second parts Mr Anderson on behalf of the settlers presented a haads;ome gold albert to Mr Benet, chairman of the Hall Committee,, to whose perseverance the erection of the hall is largely due. • . The dance that followed was well attended. Music was supplied by Messrs Curie (yi ol i n ) and Kennedy (piano). Mr, D. Wildermotih officiated, as M.C. ' ' * ■ On the l'Sth inst. Mr J. Rodgers, while working at "tihe bottom, of a deep trench on Tohara Road was covered by a heavy fall of earth. • He was taken to Stratford the same night and attended to by Dr Scott; thence to New Plymouth Hospital the following day. According to the latest accounts he is progressing favourably but his injuries are very severe. His eldest socn Charles was severely cut by a slasher at the same time. On 28th inst. Mr R. Crofts .while engaged in blasting was severely burned in the face and head by gunpowder. Nothing serious is anticipated but suffering and disfigurement w: 1 ! Le considerable. . . influenza and whooping coi^H ha\-» visited the settlement and the atle - dance at the State School was so xeduced that the committc-e dueled it advisable to close H. for a fortnight. The 'annual 1 meeting of householders was held in the schoolroom on the 27 bli inst. Nine housa'aJM $rs attended and Mr Gill presided. Mr A. U. Curie secretary of the retiring coMinivif.e, read the balance-sheet which shoved a good- balance in hand. A vote of. thanks to the retiring committee, proposed by Mr .Scott and sneondod by Mr McLedd was carried unauiniox sly. Of the nine householders present only seven were eligible and those were, in general with reluctance, constituted the School Comtmittee for the ensuing year viz.: Messrs W. «ill, A G. Gurle, L. Terry; D. WiMermoii, T. Ryan, J. T. McCl!u ?S age, ■- Ireland. The last i/hree are new member^ me committee met afterwards and chose Mr W. Gill as chairman and Sir U. Witaermotth as- secretary. -'" Messrs McDonald McDonald and Mists McDonald, all from Wanganwi have been on a visit to this settlement during the last fortnight. They are grafts of Ifreir reSe, Mir A. G. Curie. At the Koliinsctahi dance the above mentioned gave in fine style that rare item a Scotch Reel. " '
