A HISTORIC BUILDING.

(To the Editor.) Sir, — Following on the letters appearing in Thursday's ' issue of your paper in connection \vfth the Old Colonial Hospital at Te Henui it appears to me that such an offer as that made by the Chairman of the Hospital Board in x'espect to this picturesque and historic building,' should not be allowed to lapse without an effort being made to secure and preserve it for the public benefit. For some years past it has been a cause of anxiety to many of us that the time would come when this fine old building/ would be condemned and either ordered to be burned or sold for old timber, to make room for a snug up-to-date structure of vile taste and indifferent workmanship. Fortunately in Mr Tisch we have a gentleman who is fully alive to the desirability of preserving such an interesting and artistic relic of .the early days of New Plymouth. On behalf- of the Scenery Preservation Society!. am calling a meeting for Tuesday 24th inst., at 7.30 p.m., of all those interested in the preservation of the Old Colonial Hospital. The Society is desirous of having a large attendance of the public, and hope to see a good sprinkling of ladies at the meeting.— l am, AfT,c* W. H. SKINNER. President Scenery Preservation Society.
