FARMERS' LOSSES IN CANTERBURY
-"f 'I - Christcliurch/ 'January 28. -- : • The. damage -caused .to grain and root-crops -in country districts;, by yesterday's storm is greater than was anticipated. One farmer near the Rakaia river estimates his loss- at £2000. , In the Ellesmere and Brookside districts many hundreds of acres of grain have been ruined, barley suffering most, while hundreds of acres of potatoes and turnips., have had the tops cut clean off. Hundreds- of acres of- crops are ruined in the Springston district,, while the Lincoln district has suffered greatly. So far as, can be ascartained v no damage was done on/ Banks Peninsula. \
