Borough Council.

The monthly meeting was held on Monday night. Present : The Mayor, Mr E. Dookrill (Chairman), Messrs Brooking, Carter, Collu, Tisch, Webster, Stolir 4 (Jlow, ana Lealand. -Mr W. D. Webster, the new member for the West Ward, took his seat.

Messrs H. Okey (Chairman), am C. M. Lepper, members of the Tan* naki County Council, waited on th Council with reference to the pro posed new bridge at Henui. Mr Okey pointed out that the Counci' had the power to charge part of th< cost of the bridge to the County Council, but he asked the Counci was it wise to do so. If the Council pressed for the charge, then ii simply meant that the Waitara R*<'. ing of the County would have to give £1000, which meant a whol< year's revenue. month, and that when it is in worsing order the Council will be pleased to supply broken metal to any of the local bodies requiring the sanv, but that the Council is unable at present to fix the price per yard ; that two large meters be procured and placed at the town railway station ; that a Smaller meter be placed at the Government Buildings; that notices be sent to the persons mentioned in the turncock's report requring them to provide proper flush cisterns to their w.c.'s. — Adopted, excepting clause 2, which was deleted.

The Fire Prevention Committee recommended that F. C. J. Bellringer be appointed Inspector of Buildings under , Section 368 of "The Municipal Corporations Act, 1890." — Adopted. : " The Health Committee reported that the Chairman" (Mr Tisch) had gone with the District Health Officer, Dr. Valintine, on his inspection round the Borough. The Cemetery Committee • wa 1 ; granted further time to report on the fencing of bush in the cemetery. Mr Tisoh moved that the Counc 1 erect sajt water baths, and that designs be invited for same up to December 31st. In moving the resolution Mr Tish pointed out the great need there was for such baths. — Mr Lealand seconded. — Tho resolution was carried. *

Mr Webster was appointed to several Committees.

Several other matters were dealt with.
