GOLF.
The Ladies Golf Championship meeting commenced at Christchurch on Monday. The following matches in the first round of the Championship were played : — Misa Hill (Christchurch) 8 up and 6 to play ; Miss Begg (Dunedin) beat Mrs Boyle (Christchurch) 4 up and 2 to pl.iy; Miss Soott (Dunedin) boat Mrs Adams (Wellington) 8 up and 6 to play ; Miss llafctray (Dunedin) beat Miss Cowlishaw (Christahurch) 6 up and 4 to play ; Miss Millies (Auckland) beat Mrs Mclland (Dnnedin) 6 up and 4 to play ; Mrs Wilder (Christchurch) beat Miss Bell (Wellington) by 1 up ; Mrs Vernon (Christchurih) beat Miss Mooro (Wanganui) by 6 up. All the games were finished about tho fourteenth hole, with the exception of that between Mrs Wilder and Miss Bell, whicli was won at tho eighteenth hole by 1 up. I Tho Lifting Match was won by Mrs Pyno with the score 6. The inter-Club Match between Christchurch and Dunedin Ladies' Clubs, played on Saturday, was won by Christchurch by 17 to 7. On Tuesday tho play resulted thus :—: — Championship of New Zealand. Second ruin I— JI 8 Pearce beat Miss Bcgg by 2 up and 1 to play ; Miss Rattray beat Miss Scott by 4 up and 3 to play ; Mrs Wilder boat Miss Gillies by 4 up and 2 to play ; Mrs Vernon beat Mrs Bidwill by 5 up and 3to play. This leaves Mrs Pearce, Miss Rfi t tray, Mrs Wilder and Mrs Vernon to compote in the semi-finals which will be played to morrow. The Handicap match wr.s won by Mrs 8011, of Wellington, whose scores was 101 8, or 93 net.
