There aro now living in tho district of Oaonui four generations of the Pentelow j family. Mrs D. A. Pontelow is great grandmother to Miss Mabel Phillips, daughter of Mis F. P. Phillipe, who is i granddaughter of the above Mrs Pontelow. This speaks well for the bracing air of Tar&naki and the amiable old lady, who arrived in the colony in 1881. Incidcntallv wo may, mention that her sons •William and John settled in Canterbury over a quarter of a century ago. Mr H. Graves, who has just left the Bank of Now South Wales, has taken out an auctioneer's' license at Eltham. Mr Wobstpr succeeds him in the bank. Mr H. F. Wigram has placed his house in Park Terrace, Christchurch, at the dis-' posal of the Governor for a fortnight in November, , and His Excellency has I accepted the offer. Mr Rowan, who succeeds Mr Deem, Stock Inspector at New Plymouth, will j tako up his duties in a few days. Mr P. Dix has appointed Mr G. Garry to take charge of his orchestra at Dunedin instead of Christchurch. At Warea this (Thursday) night tho settlors intend to " farewell " Mr Chambers, their schoolmaster, who has re•igned.
