TURF ITEMS.
Thirty-three horses have been weighted for the Hack Handicap, 1 mile, to be run on the first day of the Wellington Winter Meeting. The winner may come from Tawara, Rata, Plains tone, Transvaal, Rags, and Gipsy Jack. The Surrey County Cricket Club earned nearly £5000 last year — their " gates " totalled almost £14,000.
The entry for the Grand Prix de Paris of 1901, which totals 519, is a record. The Christchurch horse, Malatua, is weighted at 8.10 in the Epsom Handicap (1 mile), and 8.6 in the Metropolitan Handicap (1£ miles), to be run at the Australian Jockey Club's Spring Meet ing, at Randwick, next September. Mr O'Brien^ Christchurch papers report, is working Malatua and other members of his team right-handed, and from this it is inferred that he intends to take the team over to Austra'ia.
