His farm is situated in tho vicinity, and his family and servants Avere amongst the first looters or the British com-oy. According to the story of refugees at Bloemfontein, the Boers on the Basujoland border cruelly ill - treated the burghei'h who surrendered ; some Avero shot, and mauy by intimidation forced to rejoin the Boer fighters.
