PAYMENT OF RAILWAY HANDS. Wellington, July 29. A deputation of West Coaab members and others wiited on the Hbn Mr Oad man to urge that 7a a day for railway hands wai Lot enough, especially on "the Coast" where living was high and the weather wet. At the sama time thsy appreciated ths action of the Minister in raiding the rate from 6s 6d. Mr Cadmin said he hid increased railway wages by £20,000, and the annual increase of 6d mentioned would involve £12,000; tor the current year additions would amount to £18,000. He sympathised with the euljact3 touched by the deputation, and would give the matter his earnest consideration and see what could be done. nEAVYRAIN IS WELLINGTON. Mildura's boats, going off to the ship, fouled the Tutauekai,and becoming disabled drifted before the gale till anchored. She was in some danger of swamping, but was ultimately rescued by a launch. NEW WHARF FOR WELLINGTON The tender of John McLean & Sons, of Auckland, of £39,000, has been accepted for the new Glasgow wharf, north of the railway wharf. Tbh firm has secured mo*t of the wharf building here of recent years. AWARD IN SEAMEN'S DISPUTE. The Arbitration Court's judgment i i the seamjn's dispute makes a few further concessions to the men. The award is to continue in force till July Ist, 1901, and U cor fined to the Wellington Induatiiil District. Surfing is to be paid GJ an hour oxtra in winter and 3 1 in sumrdef. It men work duiiag meal hours they are to receive overtime. When leav« ing port the time during which men can be called on to stow cargo, gear, &<s , is to b 9 restricted to half an hour. Men on six hour watches are to get £1 per month extra. Overtime is to bo a.lowed on Boxing Day if men a.re wanted for excursion tripß. Sotm other concessions ia respeot to overtime are allowed, but the regular rate of wjros is not disturbed No disoriminition is to b 3b 3 shown against Unionists, and the membership of tha TTijion Company's Benefit Sooiety ia to be entirely optional. Labour Day i* inoluded among the holidays, but no crew is to enjoy two Labour Days through different dates being fixed at different ports.
