STRATFORD NEWS.

[FROM OUR RESIDENT AGENT.] December 3rd. — The new Chief Dairy Expert paid Stratford a Hying visit the otiier day. He visited the factory and expressed himself as very pleased with thoroughly up-to-date appearance. Constable Cassidy has beoa temporarily transferred to Auckland to assist in dealing with the mob of bad characteis that are expected to gather in that city during the Exhibition time. Meanwhile (Stratford County, witu its turbulent population of 6000 desperadoes and its stretch of 70 miles of country, is left with Constable Ryan as the sole representative of law and order. Work is now proceeding rapidly at the Bacon Co.'a works. The building is roofed in, and the long tunnel for the water race, the excavation of which gave at first much trouble with boulders, has now reached a softer stratum. There bave been ructions in the Tennis Club on the question of Sunday play. The Sunday players are at present on top."
