A meeting of Hutt farmers was called with the avowed objecc of protesting against cattle being destroyed unless full compensation is paid, and a resolution was moved to that effect ; but by 21 to 7 an amendment waa carried approving of the action of the Government, and encouraging them in their efforts to ensure clean herds. Westport, December 5. The premises of Mr C. Smith, draper, at Denniston, were entered yesterday. The safe was taken away aud toppled over an incline.
