London, Sept. 9.— The Bank of England returns published to-day show the total I reserv* to be £25.515,000 (£946,000 njore than last week). The proportion of reserve to liabilities is 52 # 00 per cent. Three months' bilk are discounted at 1J per cent. — a fall of l-16th pen cent. The following are the latest quotations for Government securities : — Imperial Consols, 2| per cent., 111$ ; New South 'Wales 4 per cents., 122 ; 3J per cents., 107$ ; 3 per cents., 100 i; Victorian 4 per cents., 113J ; 3i per cents., 107}. South Australian 4 per cents., 11l ; 3 per cents., 100 ; Queensland 4 per cents., 113 i ; 34 per cents., 107 J. TasmaDinn 3Jt por cents., 109.}. We«t Australian 3J per cents., 109. New Zealand 4 per cents., 116J ;3J per cents., 108} ; 3 per cents., 100. The English wheat market is firm, with an upward tendency ; the Continental is tending upwards, and the American shows a general advance. The American visible wheat supply is estimated at 20,073,000 bushels. Califoniinn Xo. 1 milling, /or early shipment, 39s 6d ; Russian cargoes, 38s 3d. The London quotation for No. 1 hard Duluth is 445. The Bradford wool market is improving. The sujjar market is quiot German beet, 9s Hd ; Java, 11s ljd. Pig iron is quoted at 44s 7Jd. j The total quantity o£ wheat and flour afloat ' for the United Kingdom is 1,070.003 quarters, and for the Continent 1,390,000 qnnrtcrs. At Mavk Lane to-day prices were very firm, English wheat showing nu advance of Is per quaitcr on the week, and foreign 2s per quarter. Paris, September 9.— A French trade paper estimates that the French wheat yield thia year will show a decrease ot 35,000,000 hectolitres (102,000,060 bushels) compared with the yield oE 1896.
