Thk Australian Jockey Club's Spring Meeting was opened on Saturday. The principal event, the Derby, was won by Amberite (Carbine — Duenna), with Clarion (Carbine — Glare), 2; and Metford (Carbine— Marchesa), 3. Patriot (Autonomy—Bangle), and Overture (Abercorn — Prelude) also ran.
