FOOTBALL.

The weather was fine and tha ground in good order for the Wellington-Otago football match played at Dunedin on, Saturday, and which resulted in a win for Wellington by 10 points to 6. Otago ■cored a try almost right off, and after a lot of play, in which t'ue homo team had, on the whole, the best, Wellington equalised the score by getting a try. In the second spell, Hardcaitle potted a goal for Wellington, and Campbell scored a try. Within a few minutes of time Priestscored for Otago, and as soon as play was resumed the home team were within an ace of getting ovor again. Tho game was decidedly rough, and several players sustained injuries. Mr Garrard, as refereo, did not please the npectators, some of whom— -principally small boys — showed bad form in calling the referee and visitors \ uncomplimentary epithets. Tho local backs, when they jyot a show, were superior, and the local forwards more than held their own in the open, but they palpably tired, and were beaten in the line-out play.

Three football mutches came off at tho Athletic Park, Wellington, ou Saturday afternoon. The day wa» fine, but the ground was heavy after the rain. Under the Rugby rules the Wollington juniors defeated the Wairarapa juniors by 26 points to 8, and the seniors defeated Marlborough by 17 to 15.
