POLICE COURT.
Tuesday, July 2.— Before Major Parris. J.P., J. J. Freeth, Esq., J.P., and F. S. Canning, Esq , J.P. ALLEGED INDECENT LANGUAGE.
Kate Murray was charged that on May 7th, 1896, at Uruti, she did make use of indecent language within the hearing of persons passing in a public place, and towards one James Jerry Waite. Mr Weston> appeared for the complainant, and Mr C. F. Richmond for the defendant.
The complainant gave evidence that on passing Murray's house on May 7th, in the settlement, Mrs Murray came out and said, " Waite, if you don't keep your cattle off our land I'll do for you." Complainant replied that if Mr Murray put up his third of the fence the cattle would not trespass. Mrs Murray then used the language complained of, which reflected on Mrs Waite. He was careful not to irritate Mrs Murray, as ho had been the means of getting Mr Murray bound over te keep the pecce.
Tho defenco was a denial of the words used.
Evidences was called at some length on both sides.
After hearing the evidence the Bench considered tho case, and Major Parris intimated that the Bench would dismiss the information, each to pay his own costs. A second case, Murray v Gibson, alleged indecent language, was withdrawn. The Court rose.
