THE MELANESIAN MISSION.

LECTURE AT ST. MARY'S SCHOOLROOM. On 'Tuesday evening, the Rev, 'Percy Williams lectured in St. Mary'ft Schoolroom on the Melancsian Mission, and the life and duties of those who are engaged in that work. The lecturer exhibited a large number of excellent lantern views of island scenery descriptive of the habita and customs of the natives. The Melanosian Mission work is carried on. among the islands lying between NeV Zealand and New Guinea and includes a, small part of the latter island.

The Rev. Mr Williams has ( after an extensive training both at Now Zealand and at home in the University of Cambridge, decided to devote his life to the elevation and instruction of the heathen. His love for the work is evinced in tho earnestness with which he appeals to his hearers, and his splendid pictures and illustrations convey to his audience in a vivid manner the scones and incidents ha wishes to describe. Tho privations endured by those engaged in the' Mission work were simply and feelingly narrated, and examples of self-denial and suffering were told hi a manner that must have convinced his audience that only a real love for the work could induce anyone to engage in such an undertaking.
