STRATFORD NEWS.

[FROM OUR RESIDENT AGENT.I

June 29.— Justices Curtis and Marchant presided at the Court this morning and disposed of some score of cases. The only one of much general interest was a charge of failing to register the birth of a child. The accused pleaded that he had handed the required particulars of the interesting event to the Registrar's officeboy, and he was not aware that anything more was necessary. A half-crown fine was inflicted.

The Pembroke Road School appears to be a model one. The percentage of passes at the Inspector's examinatiou was 100, a record hard to beat, as one of the speakers uc the annual social remarked. Regular attendance is the secret. A couple of oil paintings had been offered by Mr Ireland as prizes for regularity, and at the end of the year it was found that no less than 14 children had never missed a single attendance. The pictures were balloted for, the unsuccessful competitors being consoled with boo'js.

Mr Walter Symes, who appears to have been adopted as the Government candidate for Egmont, opens his campaign at Toko on Saturday next. Some bold marauder looted the contribution box in the Reading Room, and escaped with booiy valued at £0 0s 7d. Ie is not known to what clime the enterprising financier has betaken himself, but I sincerely trust that t le canker worm of remorse will get Bmartly to work and make a hideous monkery of that life of idlo luxury the thief contemplates as the reward of his brilliant coup. Meanwhile the public will do well to rally to tho support of tue stricken Library Committee.

NOT SENTIMENT, BUT FACT. If we had to part with all the beautiful flowers but one, we would keep the rose, the lovely English rose, and had we to part with all the delicious teas in the world but one, we would keep Rassakala, the Queen of teas. — Advt.
