Miss Lizrae Dumbleton bas been chosen as manager of the Mataara Dairy Factory. Property in Coromandel is becoming valuable. Some changed hands last week at £15 par foot. , At a receqt meeting of creditors one of those present remarked, "As long as I have sixpence in my pocket and health in my body I will prosecute a man who tells me a falsehood."
On the occasion^ of a Mr Crawford taking up a new farm one day last week in Otago, twenty-three neighbouring farmers turned out with their teams to give him a day's ploughing.
The recent heavy floods in the Thames district wore a grand help to the Kauri Timber Company on account of the large number of logs which were brought down from the bushes to the mills.
Mr Sawers, the late Government Dairy Expert, has been succeeded in the position which he resigned by his brother, Mr James Sawers, manager of the Wyndbam Dairy Factory, which haß been very successful in dairy competitions, especially with cheese.

11 A baby in a family is a very expensive article " said a witness in the Magistrate's Court on Tuesday morning, when answering a question asked by Mr Westop. Witness added " You (nodding to Mr Weston) may not know it, but a father of a family does." Mr Weston remarked that no doubt his learned friend who was appearing on the other side could appreciate witness' remarks.
In a case heard in the Magistrate's Court on Tuesday morning, one witnesa was very vehement in giving her evidence. She described another person as " A good for nothing rascal," and added, " I'll let your brother know of your goings on." Again witness was asked if she had had a conversation with the defendant. " Yes," replied the witness.. " And what was said ?" queried Mr Weaton. " I gave him," said witness, "as good a tongue banging as ever he had in his life, and he was bo surprised that ho had nothing to say."
The quarterly meeting of the Excelsior Lodge, 1.0.0. F., M.U., was held in the Gill-street Hall on Tuesday night. The following officers will fill the offices for the ensuing term:— G.M., P.G. Bro. P. Bellringer; N.G., Bro. A. Lealand; V.G,, Bro. H. Stemp; Elective Secretary, P.G. Bro. C. T. Bundle; Lecture Master, P.G. Bro. W. H. Free; B.S. of N.G., P.G. Bro. J. F. Hooker; Warden, Bro. W. J. Cleland ; Guardian, Bro. C. Gray ; Auditor, Bro. C. C.Ward. The Lodge appointod the officers of the Lodge and P.G.s Bros. Hendroy and fardy a Committee, with power to add to .their number, to arrange for a social, to be held towards the end of August, at which the Lodge .surgeon, Dr. Leatham, -will be presented with. a testimonial. -
