In the Legislative Assembly, on the motion that the Address-in-Reply be adopted, MrVarney Parkes moved to appoint a Select Committee to enquire into the administration of the Public Works Committee. He attacked the Government, both on general and special lines, but the Premier gave an assurance that the matters complained of would meet with complete investigation, and took the sting out of the accusations. The debate was adjourned. The miners are jubilant at the success of the negotiations leading to the opening of the New Lambton and Dudley mines. > In the House, Mr Haynes gave notice of motion that the House vote a sum of £80,000 for the purpose of securing to miners proprietorial rights in one or more mines as a means of preventing disputes. Mr Haynes has previously written to the Premier suggesting the [j urchase of a mi ne right out for the miners, or the investment of money on thoir behalf in a going concern. The Premier replied that he would remain neutral, but would give eveiy facility for discussion on the motion. Messrs Meek and Short were elected directors of the Australian Mutual Provident Society. Bkibbake, May 13. The Government has offered Huddart Parker & Co. a subsidy of £6000 annually to extend the Vancouver Service to Queensland. Perth, May 13. The steamer Asphodel had a disastrous voyage from the Eastern Colonies. She encountered the full force of a fierce gale, during which she lost 95 bullocks, 900 sheep, 40 horses, and 20 pigs. The balance were landed in a pitiable condition.
