■Nominations for events at the Bell Block Club's fixture close with the secretary this (Saturday) night. The events that require attention are :—: — Hurdles, Flying, Cup, Pony, Scurry, and Welter.
The only New Plymouth representative to score n winning bracket a Ihe Wanganui Meeting was the pony Clavton, who annexed tho Second Hack Hurdle race.
A boxing match for tho championship of tho world and a largo stake has taken place in Mexico between Robert Fitzsimmons" of New Zealand, and Peter Maber, tbe Irish champion. The title of champion of the world was recently handed over by James Corbett on his retirement to Maher. The contest was of short duration. Fitzsimmons forced matters from tho start, and soon had hia opponent in difficulties. After a few minutes' boxincr, Mahor was unable to come up to time, and Fitzsjuimonß was declared winner. Frank Slnviu, the Australian boxer, at present in London, has challenged Fitzsimvnons for £1000 a-sido.
