THUS DAY, Before Major Parris, J.P., and C. Ren-

Nell, Esq., J.P. Drunkenness. — MekaMeka,aMaori, was charged with being drunk while in charge of a horse on Saturday night. He pleaded guilty. Sergeant Duffin stated that the man was thrown from his horse, dragged, and rendered unconscious. Constable McAnerin brought ttie Maori in a cab to the lojkup. The Maori, however, was not admitted to the hospital that night as the doctor said the regulations would not admit of his admission. The Bench, who ordered the defendant, to pay costs of the cab, expressed the opinion that the hospital regulations appeared [to be stringent. — Mr Corkill, a member of the Ho3pital Board, who happened to be in Court, gave an order that the native should bo treated at the hospital before he went home.

Before W.Stuart, Esq., S.M. William McKay, of Kereni, near Foxton, was charged with disobeying an order for maintenance of his father, Alexander McKay, who is now residing here. Tha order was made in Wellington, and varied so as to be made payable at New Plymouth. The defendant did not appear. His Worship ordered defendant to be imprisoned for 14 days, but the order will be suspended for a time to give -defendant an opportunity of paying. The Court rose.
