HEAVY RAIN IN HAWKE'S BAY.
Napier, November 29.
During Monday night, Tuesday, and Wednesday, 4| inches of rain' fell ii Napier. The storm brought down bjg fleshes in the Wairon, Mobaka, and other rivers, and some damage 'was caused in the country districts. A largo number of slips on private properties destroyed considerable portions of paß. ., ture, and one bridge was destroyed onthe Gisborne-Wairoa Road.
NEW ZEALAND INSURANCE STAFF.
Wellington, November 29.
Mr Bolam, assistant manager here of the Now Zealand Insurance Co., has been appointed manager for Tasmania, with head-quarters at Launceston. •
A BREWERY BURNT.
Marshall's brewery, at Woodhaugh, was completely destroyed by fire early this morning. Insurances, £300 on the building, and £500 on tho stock and plant, in the Alliance Office.
FATAL ACCIDENT.
Mastbhton, November 29.
Arthur Tyler, aged 30 years, was killed at Weraiti siwmilte yesterday. He was cutting a log of wood when & a portion of the log rolled "on him, crushing his skull. Death was instant* aneoas.
A CHILD KILLED.
Ddnedin, November 29.
Jane Douglas Simpson, aged 9 years, daughter of a fruiterer in ' Princes-street south, was killed through falling through a skylight/ ; (
