TUEP ITEMS. The Metropolitan Handicap was run at Randwick to-day. A wire from Sydney this morning says :— " Weather is beautifully fine to-day, and a large attendance is expected at the race 3. The well-known stallions Cap-a-pie, Dauphin, and Puriri have died on this coast ■within the last few days. -Mrs Pearson, a ladies' hairdresser, advertises that she has commenced business in Powderham-street. Another of the popular winter nights' entertainment will be given at St. Mary's School on Friday evening next. The St. Cecilia Society's practice takes place to-night (Tuesday) at 8 p.m. Music " The" Holy City."— Advt. The new term in connection with the High School will commence on Monday next. A manager for a dairy factory at Collingwood is wanted. At the District Court, Wanganui, today (Tuesday), James Bailey was sentenced by District Judge Kettle to nine months' hard labour for breaches of Bankruptcy Act. v The New South Wales Football Team decline to play a return match against New Zealand. Mr W. McDonald has a notice in another column to which attention is directed.
