MISS MAY YATES' PICTORIAL MONOLOGUE. A " Pictorial Monologue " will be given in the Alexandra Hall on Monday next by Miss May Yates on " The Progress of the English Speaking People." These " Pictorial Monologues " were organised in Scotland in connection -with a lectmy fund, by which lectures were delivered during the winter and spring at Home dealing with health, temperance, humanity, food reform, international arbitration, improved cultivation of the land, co-operation, the abolition of sweating and insanitary dwellings. Miss Yates has come to the colony in connection with this English Association, and all profit derived from the lectures will go in aid of the object for which Miss Yates is such a strong advocate. We mention this because Sir Courtney's letter in another column would be apt to give the impression that Miss Yates was to "receive the profits derived from the lectures, whereas they will go to the funds of the Association. These lecturej, by spreading a knowledge of scientific and social laws, will help to remove the ignorance which produces much of the preventable suffering which surrounds us, and hasten that time when every child ■will be developed to the highest pitch of physical strength, beauty, intellect, and virtue, and by teaching men how to keep the body in a state that will defy disease, will enable them to pass through life in healthful and vigorous activity.
