TWO HOURS' MIRTH AND MUSIC

A very amusing entertainment will be given in the Alexandra Hall to-morrow (Thursday) evening, when Captain Fred Thomas will, in his inimitable style, tell some very amusing stories, and Mr Halcombe, jun., will exhibit his phonograph. Referring to Captain Thomas, the Wanganui Herald says: —" The monologue performance of Captain Fred Thomas was altogether exceptionally good, and quite equal, if not superior, to any enter tainment of the kind we have witnessed here. In ihis character sketches, he displayed a fund of humour that was positively catching with the audience, the crispness of the anecdotes and the keen 4 wit evolved being accentuated by bubbles of merriment; in fact, some of the points were absolutely drowned in laughter. No less successful was he in his wonderful whistling ventriloquism, the audience being fairly electrified. He whistled a verse,of " The Swance River," the echo being, heard somewhere uj> in the roof ; he also whistled with a cigar in his mouth, with his mouth bandaged. 'As a finale tO—fais. performance, Captain Fred Thomas gave try request that side-splitting story of " How Bill Adams won the Battle of Waterloo," this item having the effect of sending the audience home in high good humour." Seats at Mr Gilmour's are being booked in large numbers.
