STRATFORD SPORTS.

# TAKE PLACE TO-MORROW. Although clashing with the regatta at Waitara, there is certain to be a very large attendance at the Stratford Athletic Sports to-morrow (Thursday). The sports will be held on the Club's new track, which is stated to be in excellent order (though perhaps a trifle heavy), thanks to the care and attention paid to it by Messrs Palmer and Clare £nd a few active members of the committee. Large entries have been received for all events, and Mr Kivell's handicapping has left the results very open. A correspondent has forwarded .the following tips, but, as he says, there are no " morals," and his forecasts may be upset by the non-acceptance of some of those tipped. For the 100 yards there are 33 entries, the most likely to win being, H. Good (4yds), Halkett (lyd), and C. Ward (Byds) in the order named, with Hirsch berg (10yds) to upset the pot. , Twenty-eight entries were received for the 220 yds, the most dangerous apparently being C. Ward (20yds), E. P. Webster (20yd8), and D.onnelly (14yds), who should finish in that order. The scratch men have little show of catching the limits. Jn the quarter-mile H. Ford (15yds) should be able to win, with Good (15yds) and'Goodison (scr.) to fill the places. A McLean (15yds) ought to have no difficulty in annexing the Boy's Race, and should be followed home by Brown (6yds) and Mackay (scr.) The long start men appear to have the Hurdles at their mercy, and the winner should turn up in Pearson (owes syds), with Rowe (owes 10yds) and E. P. Webster (scr.) in the places. In the half-mile the limit, 50yds, is a short one, but Francis (scr.) is not a likely starter, or he should win easily ; Howe (35yds), Kilpatrick (30yds), and Crozier (45yds) may get home in the order named. In the mile the limit is again short, 110 yds, indicating a good class of men engaged. A. George (20yds) will not be far away at the finish, with Bigham (35yds) and W. Ward (20yds) close up. The mile walk should be carried off by Joe Wilson (30yds) and the places may be filled by Alpe (scr.) and Stockley (scr). The Stratford Brass Band will be in attendance and a very enjoyable day's sport may hi anticipated.
