The Ministry has resigned. Sir John Downer, on the meeting of the house to- j day, said snch an indignity as had been placed on the Government by the action of the Opposition had never been inflicted under any constitutional Government He advised His Excellency to j send for the Hon. C. C. Kingston, who actually movei the resolution on which the Government were defeated. Mr Kingston explained that the party had taken hurried action to prevent a waste of time and avoid an acrimonious debate on the Address-in-Reply. Speaking on thesabjectin Legislative Council, Hon R. C. Baker said that if Mr Kingston became Premier, while liable to conviction as the challenger in the recent duel, ho would endeavour to test whether that hon. gentleman could constitutionally hold the position. Melbourne, June 14. The shipowners meet the representatives of the seamen to-morrow, to explain their reasons for the recent reductions in wages.
