Sydney, April 25. It i* anticipated that Parliament will be prorogued within two weeks, as it is almost certain the electoral reform will become law. The income tax has been rejected in the Legislative Council by a large majority. It is believed the Govern ment will considerably strengthen their position in that chamber by the appointment of eight or ten members. At the annual meeting of the Mutual Life Association, report showed that the new business has increased to £206,000, and the expenses reduced to 2£ per cent. The total funds for the year has increased to nearly £950,000, and the directors are of opinion that satisfactory progress is being made despite the existing depression in Australia. The retiring directors wore re-elected. Perth, April 25. Five more cases of small-pox are reported, and one death has occurred .here, and one at Freeruantle. The spread of the epidemic is creating a perfect scare throughout the colony.
